SEPPUKU: THE RITUAL OF DEATH BEFORE DISHONOUR - ISTD 2016
For this book I was awarded membership to the International Society of Typographic Design.
This publication is about Seppuku, a unique Japanese ritual of honourable suicide performed by samurai warriors. It involved a samurai cutting his own stomach with his sword to achieve eternal honour in his death.
This book consists of two parts; Part I ‘Seppuku’ that communicates the historical and cultural context behind the seppuku ritual and samurai in Japan, then Part II ‘The Ritual of Death before Dishonour’ which focuses on the strict protocols that evolved as seppuku became ritualised within samurai culture.
